Action Man! One of my favorite set of toys as a young boy. Action Man did it all! He was the kid version of Rambo in a nutshell. Although far less dramatic and had its own kid’s show. In this particular story, I hid out with one of my prized possessions… The Action Man Rock Climber, complete with an automatic zip string.

I believe this particular toy I received in a Mcdonald’s Kids Meal. It was a great little thing! It was Action Man with a zip string you could pull and he would zip back up to your hand. As if rock climbing or escaping into a helicopter. In the picture below… in the circle on the left… I was busy showing off my awesome new toy to a friend during recess. Now the thing was, the reason I was hiding behind that wall and away from the eyes of the teachers was because we were not allowed to bring outside toys, or else they would be taken away! At the end of recess, for some odd reason (maybe I just wanted to keep playing with it), I did not return to the classroom. The teacher shouted and shouted for me because I was clearly missing. I hid inside the tunnel marked by the circle on the right side of the picture. The tunnel looks rotated around since the late 90s. Eventually, the teacher gave up and returned inside. I remember well continuing to play with it but also scared to come out since I had not obeyed the first command. I would have rather waited for her to leave, and then return of my own volition. Returning to her while she was still shouting would have admitted my ignoring her calls. By waiting for her to go away, I can plead innocence upon my return. Which is exactly what I did! Like I’ve said in a previous memory, I was a sneaky kind of kid. So when I returned, all she could do was put me back in the classroom.
I would like to think like Action Man, that was another successful mission.
