I was lucky enough to have the common sense about Santa’s existence at an early age. Santa was never a prominent figure in my life. Sure, there were Santa Clause-themed objects around me in public, but at the home, I don’t recall it being pushed. Perhaps my parents wanted Elisa (my sister) and I to know who was buying their presents.
Every year at our school, the teachers would hand us toy magazines. The magazines were filled with the coolest gadgets and gizmos. We were told to circle the ones we liked and return them to our teacher so that they could deliver our requests to “Santa”. Of course, it was to our parents. I wonder what they did with the parents that wouldn’t buy a gift!
All of the students, meaning all 3 classes in the Maternelle, were all gathered in the large common area for a special Christmas day. We sat with friends, ate food, and received our presents! I remember well while waiting, one kid claimed to have seen Santa Clause flying in his slay outside. Of course, he was lying, but I wanted to believe him so badly because I wanted my circled gift in the magazine so bad. I remember vividly, looking up to the ceiling, where there was a large window looking up directly to the sky. I just stared, hoping to see him. Fighting all of my common sense.
Well, I never saw the man, but soon after, I did receive my present! It was the one I circled. The large racing track with cars! This thing was huge!! I wonder what happened to it… Thank you mom and dad!!
