It’s never a dull moment in elementary school. A pool of children from all sorts of backgrounds and behavioral problems that would have a teacher rethink their career. No teacher quit their job on this particular day, fortunately.
It was a normal day in CP. All of the students are minding their own business and working on their in-class “devoirs”. I’m sitting at a desk in the middle right front side of the room when facing the board. All is well until… I hear a scream in my right ear!! A painful and agonized scream. I turn my head quickly to the right. Immediately, I see the problem. There is a pencil sticking out vertically from a boy’s hand. He was just stabbed by another student. Palm down on the desk screaming. Who knew kids our age were capable of expressing such a violent reaction! Interestingly enough, no blood was coming out. It was well stuck in there!
I took a look at who the boys were that are involved. Of course, the boy stabbed was one that was not particularly well-liked by the students. I wasn’t friends with him. He may have had a behavioral or mental problem in all honesty. The boy opposite of him, I was surprised by! He never struck me as a kid capable of this. It was this short kid. I believe his family came in from the Middle East. Look at his face, there was not much emotion. I don’t know if he was in shock at what he had done or just that way.
Anyway, Emmanuel, our teacher, handled the matter delicately. I don’t remember there being a ruckus. All of the students were well-behaved during the event. I believe he was soon after picked up by his parents. Maybe the ambulance came? Emmanuel calmly escorted him out of the room while taking care of him. I don’t remember at all what happened to the boy that attacked. The boy who was stabbed in the hand, on the other hand, we didn’t see him for a while after that. He came back eventually.
That was probably the first real act of violence I had ever witnessed. I wouldn’t say I was traumatized in the least. I don’t think my mind worked or works that way. But it all just goes to show, there is a reaction to every action! Also, don’t stab anybody.
(Below is a picture of the kid who reacted. I cannot find the kid who was stabbed in this picture)
